Someone is selling a coralife super skimmer 125 on craigslist and I offered $90 and he said deal... i then thought to myself is it even worth spending $90 on it or getting a better one? I have a 75g reef and I have been running a stupid seaclone 100 skimmer for almost a year and I am sick of it. I don't have hundreds of dollars to spend to buy a new skimmer but I want to upgrade and I figured this $90 deal would be to my advantage...Can anyone help me out in deciding if this skimmer is good? With experience with it or not...

ANYTHING WILL HELP!

Thanks:rolleyes:

I would pass on the CSS skimmers.A very low end piece of equip.
Also a 125 CSS skimmer will not handle a 75 gallon.

I think they are a relatively good skimmer, and would say go for it.

people tend to talk bad about these skimmers but i will tell you i have one on a 90 gallon and i get some of the darkest skimmate ever. i thought that i would upgrade my skimmer and got an octo bh-300 which i was told would blow my css out of the water so i got it. i have had it going for about three weeks now and i know that it is still breaking in but i can not get dark skimmate with this thing no matter what i do so in my opinion i would get the css because i have had really good luck with mine. i am going to give the octopus another few weeks and if i cannot get it to skim i am going back to my css

I have been using a CSS 220 for about 6 mos. and I like it . It pulls some nasty smelly stuff when you get it dialed in. If you use it in a sump you will need to keep the water level fairly stable, if the level rises too much it can overflow .Very sensitive to water level I found out .It is not the best constructed skimmer out there but it does do its job in my tank very well so far .I also run an ETSS skimmer which is a higher quality build but I still favor my CSS 220 . It does its job pretty good for me. Hope this helps .

The CSS 125 does a decent job as long as the sump level (or area where pump sits) remains constant. They do have a tendency to overflow, at times, for no apparent reason.

A used one usually goes for around $75, with everything in good order.

Well what skimmer for a good price would you recommend and where could I find one?

Do you think it would work equally well if not better hanging off the back? Considering the water level in the display tank never really changes?

I never used is as a HOB , but what I have seen of the construction of the housing it looks like it could be susceptable to leakage . But HOB would eliminate the water level fluctuations .

i use my CSS 220 as a HOB from the sump and i have no leaks what so ever. I too use a sedra 3500 needlewheel on mine and it really gets dark skimate.
