Anyone know the telltale signs of a female scribbled angel versus a male scribbled angel? A LFS owner is telling me she thinks this is a female scribbled.

My angel was sold to me as a male, which I believe it is. I thought the common characteristics of a male scribbled was a large white patch, blue sides and a distinct pattern.

Females, from what I've read, are browner on the sides, smaller white patch and the pattern on their sides isnt real distinct, or as distinct.

Anyway, here is mine again... anyone think it's a female? I dont have a good shot of the side pattern of the angel, but it's not brown and it's nice and distinct in the lines, so I dont think it's female. Plus, the white spot is pretty big.

That is a male. The horizontal lines are a dead giveaway. great looking fish BTW!

Yours is a male Grant. The female scribbles are easy to tell due to the bluer body vs. the more brownish blue, the less pronounced white on the cheek and the most distinct feature...the darker spotted tail. Females have a less pronounced tail and most of the time is mainly yellow with little to no spots.

So do females have vertical lines?

I found this picture on the web of one declared to be female and noticed the vertical lines...

Ah yes, thanks Chris. Now that you point it out, I do see the female I found the picture of has very faint, if any, spots on it's tail.

Another dead giveaway for a female vs male is the shape of the tail.

The female has a nice rounded tail with no points...the male has a tale similar to that of a niger trigger with tiny versions of streamers.
