seriously, are they actually 48" or are they meant for a fixture that is 48" and the bulbs would then be like 46.5"? my tank is 48 5/16" end to end so i'm trying to figure out if i can fit 48" T5's or if i should be using 36".

I'm only using 2 of these to supplement 2 x 250w MH bulbs. what color K is best for this arrangement?

the bulbs are 48" long. The endcaps extend it out a little more, probably 1.5" more or so.

48",? LOL, redundant. . yes a 48" t5 will fit a 4 ft tank
depends on kelvan of halides, i would use 12K reflux in the halides and actinic plus t5s.

they are less then 48". All those lights(bulb and endcap) are made to be under the standard size so they fit on tanks and in canopies.

Most fixture are the same way, but a few go over.

European T5 lamps are metric. In inches they are a hair below 45.75", Giesemann and ATI. Not sure about others. This is not a guess, it is a direct measurement from pin to pin, on a Giesemann lamp.

+1 on uncleof6 but, on the other hand the VHO bulbs are 48" for a 48" bulb, thats why they make 46.5" VHO as well.
