800 octopus skimmer set up, HELP!

I cannot figure this out
the 800 hob skimmer is SO LOUD like it just chugs chugs chugs
there are no bubbles in the tank, but i cant even tell if i set it up right

what on earth is that blue tube off the intake?
what does turning the blue intake valve back and forth do?

how can i make it stop chugging?

i had same problem with my 300f model. to fix that, you need to increase the water level in the out put chamber. I got a gate valve from homedepot and just attached to the out put pipe.

The blue air line is so you can prime the syphon on the intake. The fitting is so you can open the valve and then start the syphon my sucking on the blue air line then closing the valve. This will get the water flowing and once the valve is closed, you shouldn't have to prime it.

make sure you FILL the skimmer first before turning on the pump.
