Hi All,
I'm setting up a 40 Breeder for SPS. Need to know what size and how many Koralias will be sufficient. Also the tank is not drilled and I will be getting a LifeReef overflow. What size Magdrive would be good for the return? A Mag7 ??? Thanks

www.glass-holes.com Drill the tank! You will be sorry if you dont! Its really alot easier than you think. I have been helping a friend with his 40B, and we have drilled 8 holes in the back glass for a closed loop, overflow, and return.

Hey Dustint, how many holes did you drill in that 40g breeder for overflows? Is that the 700gph overflow kit installed? Thanks!

so, back to the original question.....what size and how many Koralias or modded MJ1200'S would be the best for SPS?...

My recommendation would be either two Koralia 2'x or 3's along with the return flow. If you have the budget go with a Vortech MP20. I have a Koralia 2 and it's not small. I also have a couple Tunze Nanostreams I like a lot. Smaller than the Koralia but not controllable like the Vortech.

I use only one vortech mp40 and the return with and inductor it has very good flow for SPS

I drilled just one hole. It is 700gph. You can drill the holes for the returns in the top of the tank for the returns, and if you run a closed loop system you can drill where ever you would like. the link above has a couple videos, check them out.

If you have the cash go for 1 vortech MP40w this is a great powerhead with adjustable flow rates, so it can grow with you if you upgrade to a larger tank down the road.

Thanks Dustin, I'll try the K 3'S and the 700 Gph return pump

i ran mine with 1-2 koralia 2's, occasionally swapping a koralia 3 in for one of the 2's as i cleaned them. i won't do it again.

mp20w or mp40w imo.
