I have read about a new constellation fixture that has LED and moonlights.
Any update on when they would be available?

I am wondering too. Also when the new constellation hybrid comes out, will there be the possible to make some sort of an exchange of our regular fixtures for the new ones? I am drooling over the new fixtures!

the fixture with LEDs is the Solar Flare. There are 6 bulbs, not 7, but they are also overdriven.

Doug,
The new LEDs that we received last week are showing some promise. I have my team working hard to have a finished product ready in time for MACNA this year. If all goes well the new Hybrids will be available in the Constellation as well as the TX5s.
Fishieness, The Solar Flare just has LED Moonlights. The new fixtures Doug was inquiring about were the T5/LED Hybrids. T5HO fixtures with white LEDs to create shimmer and blue LEDs for moonlights.
Thank you,
Tom

I have a 72" Constellation. Will there be an upgrade or add-on available? I am already running (3) Current Powerbrites along the back of my fixture and LOVE the shimmer and color Pop they add.

Kdocimo90,
I just came back from Light Fair (huge lighting trade show) with come great samples of new high output LEDs. We will be testing them out and hopefully have the final product ready to show at MACNA. We can assist you in the selling of your fixture when the time comes for the upgrade.
Jeff,
We are keeping the possiblity of an upgrade module but no promises.
Thank you,
Tom

Tom,
Without getting into proprietary territory, how challenging has it been to find a combination of LED and T5's that allow the LED's to cut through the intensity of the T5's providing a "shimmer effect"?
Is the goal to have a product that runs both at the same time for peak lighting or will the LED's only be used for moonlight and dawn / dusk type functionality? What size fixtures do you anticipate being part of the initial release of the product? Hope this isn't too many questions. Thanks.

Anyone care to comment on the merits of a LED / T5 combination vs. a T5 only???

Jeff,
The main purpose of the LEDs in the new T5/LED Hybrid fixtures will be for shimmer effect, but we are working on it so that these LEDs will be of the same intensity as the T5 HO lamp it will be replacing. The main white LEDs will be on with the rest of the T5s as the main lighting while single Blue LEDs will be used at night for moonlights. We are planning on coming out with the Hybrid fixtures in all our Constellation and TX5s. Now for those who do not care for the "shimmer effect" we will continue to offer the Constellation and TX5 series fixtures as they are (with no LEDs).
Thank you,
Tom

Tom,
Thanks for sharing that information! I'm sure there are many of us that are eager to see the product once it is available for public consumption as "eye candy" and then actual use as it goes into production.

Jeff,
We are just as eager to get the product out. Once we are completely satisfied with the Hybrid performance we will issue a press release and maybe even a few sneak peak photos (no promises).

Tom,
Puppy Center in West Hartford, CT has me sold on your lights when I go ahead with my tank upgrade. Love the idea of a hybrid LED/T5 and anything expanding options for a 36" tank. 48's would be better but won't fit where I want it to go.
Just saw PFO is out due to pending lawsuit with Orbital Tech over led's. Something just doesn't smell right. Just hope what you're working on doesn't get stalled. Down right sucks for the industry, existing customers of PFO, and future innovations.
Are you doing a tent sale this summer?

Todd,
We are working very hard to have some models of the Hybrid fixtures ready by MACNA. More 36" Models are a possibility.
Yes, we are planning on holding another Tent Sale before MACNA. More details will be coming soon.

Hey Tom,
Any updates? My halides bulbs are over a year old and its time for something new. I'm still holding out to see what you guys' product looks like. Its either your new hybrid light or I spring for the ATI Powermodule. Do you have any info or photos to hold me over till it comes out? :D My corals aren't happy with old bulbs!
Is it still planned to have 4 leds only like this photo:

Thanks,

Kurt,
We are still moving forward. No new photos at this time. The fixture in that photo was only a prototype. The production model will have even more high intensity LEDs then the prototype pictured. The number of LEDs will vary depending on the length of the fixture. As it still stands we are hoping to have production started just after MACNA in September. The physical dimensions of the Constellation and TX5 hybrid fixtures will be the same as the standard models.
Thank you,
Tom

+1. An upgrade kit would be perfect rather than having to go through the trouble of buying the newer fixture and trying to sell the old one.
I'm looking forward to this! I cant wait to see it in person!!!

We are going to try to come up with some way of offering an upgrade, but the way the fixtures are currently setup, it might not make it piratical or easy to do. I will let everyone know if something reasonable can be done for a Constellation and TX5 series upgrade to the hybrid versions.
Thank you,
Tom

Tom,
I sure hope some video footage makes it to the web after your tent sale for those of us that don't live back east :D Any comments on pricing, say for 48"? I know some of the higher output LEDs certainly aren't cheap. How many switches/cords will the unit have? 3 for bulbs and 1 for LED?
Thanks again for keeping us updated.

Just give Aquactinics a call, they will be happy to update you on where this particular fixture stands and will share some additional insights for those that may be interested and have been following this thread for awhile now. I spoke with Tom earlier today and found the information he shared very, pun intended, enlightening. In a nutshell, you are looking at combining very high end LED's with T5's and there is quite a bit that goes into the decision to bring that particular product to market.

Jeff

I was interested in this as well. Nice way to say it's not quite cost effective. Wonder if they'll make a special order fixture for those who are willing to pay the extra bucks for this feature?
