I got one from a friend a couple weeks ago and didn't do much research on him. Should I be concerned that he will eat my cleaner and blood shrimp? They are both larger than he is at this time. If he will cause problems does anybody know of a good way to catch him without ripping apart all my rock.

There is a pretty good chance it will eat your shrimp. Not definite but a good chance.
However, imo they are a great fish. Very entertaining, great eyes and interesting behaviour. Far more 'value' than keeping shrimp.

Yes, the are entertaining with terrific personality and they almost certainly will eat your shrimp (that is what they do, after all). Your choice, shrimp, or hawkfish.

So would it take down a full grown Coral Banded Shrimp?

how would I catch him to move him to another tank without dismantling the rock.

Sometimes introducing the fish after the shrimp helps. I had a flame hawk and it left my cb and clearer shrimp alone. However I added a couple peppermints after the fish was introduced and they were both gone in about 30 minutes.

I have a flame hawk. He has not touched my cleaner shrimp or my coral banded shrimp. they are both pretty big though and were in the tank before him.

I am wondering about gobies. I plan to add seveeral more timid gobies or blennies to my 150 gallon, including a pair of mandarins if I can swing it. I've heard that hawkfish have a shaky record with these little guys.

Well I did have a small neon goby that cam up missing one day. I am not sure if the hawk fish ate him or not but it is possible.
