I have an American Marine Ph monitor hooked to my calc reactor. I noticed it is not changing it seems to be stuck at 6.65. When I touch the socket where the ph probe enters the unit the ph number starts dropping. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Do you think it needs calibration or the unit is shot?

Greg,

Sounds like a short. I believe the reading is based on resistence throught the probe. So if you have an ohm metter you can check the continuity. But its probably the BNC connection. Maybe it's time for a new probe? I just bought a meter myself and found a few people have the meter's but not the probes. So they probes obviously go bad but not sure what happens when they go bad? You may know more about this than me.

When was the last time you calibrated it? May be time for a new probe or a good vinegar bath.

I have never calibrated it. I am not really sure how to do it. I am going to clean the probe tonight and see if it helps. I still think it is weird that when I touch the cord the numbers change.

Does anyone know where to get probes localy?

Sounds like the probe needs to be replaced.

Not sure what LFS has them but I'd call around or try Tony (reefexotics) or Cindy (jc aquatics).

Even a new probe will require calibration.

I downloaded the pdf instructions for calibration so I will give it a shot.

If that doesn't work BRS has generic ones that have got some good reviews for $29.

Good luck.

Thanks Wally. I just spoke to Tony at Reefexotics, I am going by to see him tommorrow to pick up calibration fluid and a new probe.

How much is he selling the probe for? I sent him an email this afternoon nothing back yet?
Do you have to calibrate even if new? If so does the cal fluid come with it?

He sells the fluid for .99 a packet on the website. Of course when I get home it is working fine but I am still going to get the new one. I am also going to clean and calibrate the one I am using now. I purchased it used almost a year ago and I am not sure how long it was used before, so I may as well have a back up.
