Currently have one very happy and healthy Purple tang, and a very healthy and happy (but pestered by the Purple tang) Yellow Belly Hippo in our 90 gallon reef. Both are about 3-3 1/2 inches long. Would like to add either a Kole or Powder Brown. Would three be too many for the size tank we have? Opinions?

You can end up doing what you want after everyone gives their opinion...afterall it's your tank...but get ready to get beat up by "The Tang Police".

You answered your own question by stating the the purple is already pestering the hippo. :)

1 tang is plenty for a 90, hence the aggression. The yellow belly will need a larger tank at some point so be ready for that.

The agression will note be eased by the addition of another tang.

IMO, the kole tang would be the best suited to your system. Both the hepatus and powder brown will outgrwo the system, as will the purple ( adult PT's are quite large and very active).
I certainly would not consider a third, and if the aggression continues between the two you already have, remove one and call it a day.

I wouldn't add another, just save the money to upgrade to a bigger tank once the tangs need it when they get big.

I think your thread should read
"I have two tangs in my 90g. It's not going so well due to aggression issues. What do you think about adding another tang?"

I am jesting of course, but, as stated earlier, you have already answered your own question.

Why not take out the hippo and put a kole?

There's lots of other fish besides tangs that will not only live happy, healthy lives in your 90, but give you a more stable, lasting system. I can't even begin to name them all.

Or, if you're really intent on keeping tangs, you can get them the right sized tank. A 90 is small by tang tank standards.

That said, I'm still looking for an answer to what a "tang police" is?
