coralife metal halide question

Im new to the salt water game and trying to learn things on a very sharp learning curve which patience seems to be the number one rule. Anyway I got a pretty sweet 125g set up used. the guy I got it from is out of town on business or I would be asking him. It came with 2 coralife fixtures. both 2/96w. Each have a daylight bulb and a purple bulb. My question is should the fan be kicking on when the daylight bulb is lit? Becase like I said I'm new to this but so this may be a nub question, but if the two fixtures are uniform as in the purple light is in back and the daylight bulb is in front then on one of the fixtures, the fan kicks on with the purple light in the on position.

Its likely intended to only come on when both are on. Wiring it to the second bulb is the easiest way as often people hook them to timers so 1 bulb comes on for a while in the morning then the next comes on to simulate mid day.
