Hey everyone. I currently have a 20l that I'm going to add a 10 gallon sump to. Would it be fine to make this a frag area with an HOB protien skimmer and HOB power filter. I'm using one of the clip on lights or maybe some PC (haven't desided yet). Anyone think this work work well or even desent?

You might as well set up an additional 20L and just have a separate system. My frag tank (at the moment) is a separate 20L and its fine, just use water changes and light/no fish load and you should be fine.

My frag tank is located in my sump and this works very well for me. I built "scaffolding" out of PVC pipe in the live rock area and put eggcrate on top of it. It helps get the corals closer to the light and it allows for live rock to be placed under the eggcrate. In my sump I am still able to fit 70-80 lbs of live rock and I get a decent frag area.

What size is your sump sonnus?

As for a light, I would look into a retrofit kit since it will be in the sump (potentially covered) area and will not need any fancy aesthetic need. You can find new MH retros for less than $200, or even ask around for some use equipment too, just change the bulb.

I think my sump is an 80 gallon but I had a similar setup on a small 20 gallon sump on a different tank.
