Spend a few more bucks and get this one. It is pretty much the standard for Canon folks wanting nice macro shots.

Yeah the 100mm f/2.8 macro is the bread and butter. It's a steal for $500. You can go with the one in your link but...I sure wouldn't want to shoot a tank with it. The bokeh is going to be hard and enough times to be annoying you may have need to get closer to your subject than the glass in your tank will let you.

would the 100mm be good for nature photography outside as well?

For flowers and moss and tree bark...yes. For bugs and lizards and snakes and stuff that is going to run away from you...I want the $180mm f/3.5L macro$ for that :).

im buying that 100mm macro by canon this week from newegg, and also picking up the XSI w/ 18-55IS lens

You'll love it. Great lens and I like the Xsi as well. They 18-55 I have some issues with but it should keep you coasting for the foreseeable future. The 100mm macro is a *wow* lens. Oh man it is awesome. I wish you many years of happy shooting with it.

Yep, you won't regret spending the extra on the 100mm. I do a lot of macro with a 65mm specialty lens and you have to be very, very close to the subject with that. I wouldn't want to go with any less of a focal length. In fact, the minimal working distance with the 65mm drives me nuts most of the time.

Good luck!

haha now im debating..... and i want some more opinions.

im not sure if i should just go witht eh canon t1i or stay with teh xsi. Photographically the 2 look pretty comparable, except in high ISO shots. but overall the t1i would be a better shot i think for everyday stuff. what you all think? or is the extra 200$ not worth it at this time?

Do you think you'd ever use the video capture? Actually, I'm aching to upgrade my camera body to something that will record video. I'd start using a tripod for macro shots again if I could use it to shoot macro video. ;)

As far as high ISO goes, I use it occasionally when shooting low-light snapshots, but I mostly wish for a body with an even lower ISO that could give me better color saturation, like the 5D Mark II.

yea id use the HD video....itd be fun to get HD macro video i think. so overall the t1i would be the better camera for me to get then? does it have any "new" camera issues yet to be solved by canon?

Did you get the 100mm macro lens yet? The best $500 I ever spent. It's make a great portrait lens too.

I was looking at the T1i but ended up getting a great package deal with the Canon 40D + 17-85mm EF-S lens IS USM for $999.
