I saw one of these ugly ba****ds at the fish store but yet he was so cool watching my every movement. Unfortionatly I hear they suck on snails and shrimp? How have yours behaved?

i think they look awesome with that bright red coloration...but as far as invert safe? HAH! this is hilarious to me becuase not more than 30 minutes ago i saw my fire shrimp go floating through the tank. he had bits floating on both sides of my tank. this is just another casualty in the long line of shrimp demises that have hit my tank since "flamer" burst onto the scene(my girlfriend loves to name all the fish).

Mine killed small fire shrimp, but initially left larger shrimp alone. As time went on though, he started killing large fire and cleaner shrimp. So I caught him and sold him.

Now I have a juvenile red coris wrasse that kills shrimp instead . I'll keep him though, they're too awesome looking as adults.

Oh man! Really? I had one for a while... he was AWESOME! I didn't notice that he was a killer, but I did lose a pile of little things, but I dont remember ever seeing Skittles attack anything. (We name EVERYTHING too. He is red, and skittles around the tank... )

This is bad news, my wife was REALLY looking forward to getting another one. GOnna have to plan the tank around one, then.

I have two in my tank and they don't bother my pair of coral banded shrimp. I do think they took out my cleaner shrimp though.

They will take out cleaner shrimp (I caught one with the shrimp half in) but probably cannot take out coral banded shrimp.

I concur, I used to have a Coral-Banded. Couldn't touch it.

Mine doesn't seem to have bothered my peppermint shrimp or my coral banded. I've even offered him money if he'd off the coral banded... :-)

Mine is a peppermint shrimp killer. He has eaten lots of them. But he doesn't mess with the coral banded shrimp.

Heh, coral banded has claws!

"Yea......I poke yer eye out beeeeeeetch ! ! "

Well, if they took out your peps, guess they would sure enough take out my cleaner shrimp. Gots ta have the snails, shrimp, (would do emerald crabs if they didnt hide) and other diversity. I dont think ol Rodney would go for that.

I have a dwarf hawkfish and I have never had any luck keeping a shrimp for more than a few hours. I need to try a coral banded shrimp from the sound of it. I really love "Spike" and can't get rid of him.

You have to pick the ones with the smoother mouth(if thats the correct term). Even then its a hit and miss with these guys. Had a calm hawk fish for 2 years. Once he was bigger and fatter he took out all my shrimp and snails. :uzi:

I have a longnose. I moved him over to my mixed reef and so far he hasn't eaten the pep or cleaner shrimp. Knock on wood!

Mine ate a small skunk cleaner and a fire shrimp. Got a big skunk cleaner now and it tries to attack it, but it's as big as him and just latches on and starts cleaning til the hawk swims off in a huff. Hasn't taken any snails or hermits that I've witnessed.

Ha ha ha, thats funny, thought the hawk sounds small. Hmmm, wonder what he is going to do in the future???

How long have you had your hawk dweezle?

you guys are forgetting to point out the fish they dont like. If another fish even looks at them in the wrong way, it's on like donkey kong. My friend has a 50 gallon with wrasses and and clowns and I warned him not to get a hawk but he too couldn't resist the red color and found out the hard way with many tattered fins in the tank and a few dead ones. I think he traded out in less than a week.

Yea, I have been reading a lot about them and psudo/dottybacks not getting along.
