My mag is at 1100 on salifert test kit. I need to increase this and I was looking at 1500 because of a hair algae problem ( I have heard high mag levels help decrease Hair Algae). Is this number ok to have or shoud I have it more around 1350-1400? Can I add it all at once ( Calculator says I need about a gallon to increase from 1100-1500 on my 100 net gallons). I am using Randy's 2 part with the mag chloride and mag sulfate mix.
Thanks,
Josh

I tend not to raise it more than 100ppm per day. I drip it somewhat slow into a filter intake, by hand. Maybe 30 seconds to a minute for ~80-100 mL of mag chloride dissolved in RO water.

I would increase about 100 ppm per day until you achieve your target as red said :)
FWIW, I increased my mag to over 1600ppm and it didn't put a dent in my hair algae. But I have read it has worked for some.

Have you tried using a siphon with an air valve to drip in in? I use one made swith rigid and flexible tubing to drip solution from an erlenmeyer flask into the sump. Just set it to drip and forget it. :)

That is a great idea I might try that

It does work well Josh, I use the same thing for dripping kalk. I just use a plastic 1-gallon container (empty protein shake container) with a hole poked in the bottom, rigid tubing epoxied in, airline valve, and flex tubing dripping directly into the overflow (which then goes into the skimmer, where I want the high pH of kalk to aid in skimming).
