Flood your carpet?

How many people flood the carpet around the tank? i just did a good one and im trying to figure out how to get it all cleaned up. how do u get the water out of the carpent without moving the tank? ? ? is salt water BAD (obviously not good) for the carpet. i dont want it to mildew. so chime in share your stories and your clean ups!!:rolleyes:

I have used my shop vac in the past in combination with my upright carpet steam cleaner. After I got 95% or so of the moisture out I put a fan blowing across the carpet for a few days.

I flooded the carpet around my old system so many times it's not even funny... I used a combination of a shop vac, towels, fans and a hand-help steam cleaner to get it up...

After the tank was torn down and we moved, I was surprised to see the carpet directly UNDER the tank was the cleanest in the whole house. I'm assuming the pressure from the stand pushing down sealed that area off from any water getting in...

Shop vac majority of water, and in really bad cases they have fans just for blowing at bottom of carpet you can rent(turbo fan/blower) but usually requires you pull carpet up a lil at a spot to fit fan output flange so you can dry out the padding, which really is key.

I've did it two or three times. I use a shop vac to get most of it, then use towels with weight on them to get the rest. It'll stink for a few days, be prepared for that.

Oh, and I use Fans as well blowing across it.

Did it the first night with my old 55. I stood on towels around the edge of the stand soaking up water all night until they weren't pulling up any more moisture. Then I put a fan on the area when I went to bed. I broke down that tank a few weeks later, and the carpet was fine! I agree that the weight of a heavy tank probably keeps the water from going too far under the stand. Just soak up as much as you can ASAP and you'll be ok.

i did it more times than i want to admit on my old 120 when i lived in an apartment... when i broke the tank down, there was black mold/mildew under the stand... luckily, that apartment was scheduled for carpet replacement when i moved anyway and i didnt get charged for it

+ 1 on shop vac's,if you have a tank it should be part of your equiptment aka skimmer,powerheads,ect.

Luckily, my tank is on a metal stand on hardwood, so I can wipe up all the water that I inevitably spill whenever I touch the tank!

Shop vac (make sure you have the right filter for water), towels, and more towels. Use a couple fans and open window if you can. Once it is dry we used a carpet cleaner.

Worst spill was 18-20 gallons and now you would never know it. BTW, this happened on a carpet that was less than 30 days old. My wife was so pleased with me. :lol:

I do not thnk salt water will promote mold growth like fresh water.
