Finally got a MP40 for my 90 gallon. Which setting do you use? I've been running it on Random reef crest since putting it in. Really like the action of the short pulse setting, but I have an older tank I bought used and am worried about breaking the seals.
If I ran it on the short pulse, but did not try to tune it to get a wave, would the intregrity of the tank be ok?

have 2 mp40W's run in anti sync reef crest.

short pulse looks cool but you dont get near as good random flow with it. JMO

Thanks for the input. Opinions are what I'm looking for!

Ditto on the reef crest mode. Pulls alot of stuff out especially after feeding. More that my wave maker did with 4 power heads.

I have a specialist anemone tank so have two in sync on 17 second slow pulses. Thats what I love about these pumps they are adaptable to any tank or situation.

I have one on a 70-gallon cube, 100% speed on lagoon mode. Maybe I'll give reef crest a try seeing how many people in this thread use it.

I like the random reef crest mode as well...

Anti sync Reef crest here as well. With 2 40's on the back wall of my 3x3x2 cube.

I like Lagoon mode for mine, for some reason it looks like more water movement that the reef crest mode.

3 Vortechs in Reef Crest mode here. 2 in sync and one anti sync.

Both are on full blast short pulse anti-sync. About a 5" wave moving back and forth. When I lower the water level, it gets about 6" or so.

Lagoon mode is moving more water. If you look at the graphs in the owners manual. Lagoon mode mostly stays above 60% pump speed and up.
Random reef crest mode drops down to 5%.

Lagoon mode does move a lot more water than reefcrest IME.

So in addition to what mode, how close to the surface do you guys run your vortechs. Also, if you put one on each end do you line them directly across from each other or do you stagger one higher than the other or one to the side of the other??

On the side glass, I placed mine about 7 inches down, about 6 1/2 inches from the front on my 90 gallon. Seems to be working well positioned there. It replaced 2 Maxijet mods. Do not think I have as much random flow, but no more holes being blown out in the sand either. Also, the leathers and mushrooms seem to enjoy the undertow more as well. Coupled with getting the maxijet eyesores out of the tank, its worth every penny!

Short-Pulse mode, MP20, 3" below surface, will try other modes as well when I make me a bigger tank

I used to have two of them set in sync/anti-sync reefcrest random on my 180 gallon. I split the sync for more random flow.

The vortech on my softie sode of the tank (where the anemones are) gets lagoon mode. More strong flow overall, but less turbulence (variation).

The other side of my tank (the SPS/LPS side) gets the full turbulent reefcrest random.

I've gotten more PE lately out of the corals with this setup.
