My frag came from Chi (from Michigan). It's possible both of our frags come from the same colony. This is actually one of my favorites in the tank right now. I did recently pick of frags of the Lime in the Sky, Ultimate Stag, Pink Lemonade, and Acroberry though so we will have to see how it holds out against them once they grow out. :)

Hey kids.
This is the same, or near coloration that the one I posted above has now.
The good news is that these are Bali maricultured your
LFS should be able to get this trans shipped through Golden Ina.
Like I said they may have it listed as Gomezi, but you could order
one of each Granulosa, and Gomezi.
I named mine the Purple Nurple :)

I think based on the pics above, we likely have Granulosa.
But the DFS site has it as Gomezi, and the ORA guys have the
Phil's Granulosa which looks unlike the other granulosa's.
This would not however be ORA's first misidentified coral.
Not that it matters as long as it's cool:cool:

Shouldn't really need to defend, but that color is spot on - it is pretty vivid top down. You can check the white in any pic to see if the white balance is correct (and at the base, you can see this photo is adjusted properly). and btw, color is usually may more off (i.e. blue), if you do not photoshop pics. It always cracks me up when people act like if you don't photoshop, the color will magically be exactly what you see in person. People spend years photographing reefs and thousands on equipment, and would kill to be able to just click and get accurate colors without any post-processing....

No no I'm not arguing with you. I also do a little post processing to get the exposure etc correct. I was just asking, it wasn't an attack. There is a couple spots in the pic where it looks like the vibrance/saturation might have been overdone thats all.

Great looking granulosa everyone! I really like this species. I am lucky enough to work with some maricultured pieces at a local aquarium. From my observations, this species appears to display better colors under high lighting and (of course) high flow. I moved some pieces into direct light (under 400watt 14K's)and colors and growth really started to improve.

I realize this is nothing groundbreaking..:) I just wanted to share my thoughts on the species.
I will work on getting some photos for the thread.. :spin1:

Thanks Mo. I have several other "Loripes" pieces and their growth structure is different than this particular one so I was just assuming it was granulosa but you may be correct - there are a lot of similarities between the two species. Especially once they get colony size.

Regarding phos & nitrates - to be honest I don't bother testing for those. I don't do any sort carbon dosing anymore so my system is far from being a ULNS (especially with my bioload) however in my experience having some detectable levels gives me deeper colors where the with zeovit or the like colors are more pastel. That said, it can be a delicate balance because - again in my experience high phosphate level browns out a lot of the sps.

Thanks for your praise Mike, but I think I am only getting better at taking pictures.

That is a Montipora monaseriata. Unlike most other encrusting Montipora sp, it does not encrust live rock. It is very easy to break and remove. Here is a better picture of it:

This was sold to me as rainbow granulosa but looks nothing like what y'all are posting. I apologize if it's the wrong darn thing

Hi Engin, I am afraid your coral does not look like an A. granulosa to me mate. However, it looks very nice though. You should be pleased with it.

Here is my collection.

The one in the bottom of the picture is a true chamaeleon. One of the most common granulosas (at least over here).
High amounts of light makes it metallic-green, fading into blue/purple right at the tip. Light brownish to white polyps.

Low amounts gives it a dark-green base, blue tips and red polyps. Very pretty, though in my experience, it needs to be in growth before being placed there. It takes forever to get it going under these" low light" circumstances.

Many of the corals in this thread are not granulosa, most are loripes and others
