Hi gang,

Does anyone know the link that showed photos of bubble algae? I thought there was one posted before. I think I may have a couple types starting but I wasn't sure.

thanks

Thanks Troyreefer, mine looks more like fuzzy red algae with smaller clear bubbles on top.

That sounds like cyanobacteria, which isn't a true algae, but can turn into a very serious problem!

There is a bunch on this rock -- behind the fish. I ended up getting rid of all the rock, and redid the tank -- no more bubble algae.

Thanks guys. It actually doesn't look like either of those. I'll try and get some pictures tonight, I've been reluctant to remove any of it since I don't know what it is yet. (I don't want to wait too long though!)

thanks

If it's developing bubbles, it's almost certainly cyano. The bubbles that they produce are oxygen from its respiration...

Hi Toddrtrex, yeah that's it. The bubbles are very small and clear. I think if I swished the algae with something they would just float off, they don't look like the bubble algae bubbles with substance to them. I read that article as well, I wonder if "regular" turbos will eat it? I have some of them in the tank as part of my CUC now.

Unfortunatly, you can't just swish the bubble alge off of the rock. It's actually attached to the rock. You can peel them off the rock, or pop them off if you get a fingernail underneath of them.

Or you can try an emerald crab, they will eat them.
