being in ohio, you prob dont get the 115deg summers like we do in texas. but i had a 55gal with a odessy 250mh with 65wat pcs and didnt run a chiller. i have a 240 display with 400w mh and a fan in the canapy and it stays around 78ish. i will say that i never had a heater in eith of my tanks. another thing to look at is a canopy. if its small then it will heat up more and faster. my canopy is 3ft tall so there is a lot of heat exchange going on in mine. thats my 2 cents

oh, and i run my mh for about 8 hours.

forgot to add no chiller either. I do open up the lid for my canopy on the really hot summer days but my tank never exceeds 82. if it does the lights shut off automatically.

Qty 3 250Watts HQI 8-10inches of the water no chiller, I have to keep the house at 75 degrees and I have two $10 desk fans blowing across the surface. Also I cut holes in the top of my canopy to allow the head to radiate up. The temp in the morning is 78 and it gets to 82, I leave the lights on for 12 hours. Last week I lowered the temp of the house to 73degress and the tank gets to about 81 degrees.
