Hi all,
I'm finally upgrading to a bigger tank from my little 29 reef. :D

I'm looking for a return pump. The stand is about 30", the height of the tank is about 20". The sump will be below the tank and is a standard 29 gallon glass tank.

The overflow drain piping is 1", the return piping is 3/4" with 2 outlets on opposite sides of the tank (48" long tank).

I've tried to use the calculators on this site, but it's a little confusing. So to cut to the chase after this long post my question is...would an Eheim 1260 be enough for my set up. Maybe a Eheim 1262? Other submerisble return pump suggestions? I'm looking for quiet. Thanks!

And by the way, the new tank is a standard 75 Gallon...forgot to mention that.

You should match the return pump with the amount of water your skimmer can process. If you have a skimmer that does 300gph, you want 300gph going thru the sump. Otherwise all that water is bypassing the skimmer.

I have a 75gal as well. I'm running a rio that does 500gph. With head loss i would guess i've got around 400-450gph thru my sump. My skimmer pump does 750gal, but its inlet is restricted a bit, has a venturi for air, and it pushing into the skimmer so i'd gues sits pretty darn close to 400-450gph.

I've tried a mag 9 and its just too much flow. I think the 1260 would suit your tank just fine.

I am setting up a 75 that will have the failsafe overflow design on the Beananimal thread...I have about 5' of lift to my overflows.

I will be using a Mag 18 which may seem like a lot but I will be t'ing off my return to feed my refugium and incorporating a manifold setup to feed reactors as well....what is the gph of the Eheims?

Ehiem 1260 - 634 gph
Ehiem 1262 - 898 gph

Or maybe a quiet one 3000? Does anyone have experience with these pumps? Are they as quiet as they advertise themselves to be?

Eheim 1260 on my 75g. It's a nem tank so I am not looking for a ton of flow. It works perfect for me.
