Lol..... So they confiscate these MH set ups, because the offender was growing pot, Im assuming. So what do they do? They auction these set ups off, so someone else can buy them and reuse them for, I dont know..... growing more pot? lol. Smart tactics, I suppose. What is next, confiscating "water pipes" and reselling them? lol

(I understand we in the reef community have the intention to use these lawfully)

Can any of these balast be used?
I know Radium SE & Phoenix DE bulbs require an HQI or M59 balast if I'm not mistaken.

BTW, the solar stuff is probably to reduce the electrical signature the growers put out (and get caught by). but the cops confiscate and sell everything gained/used in the commision of a felony.

I have a 10'x12' freestanding fishroom with 75% of my entire electrical usage happenin' in there. I've been expecting a visit from the Man for years now... :p

If you are going to buy from the Police Auction I would recommend you define what being a Reefer really is and also explain that grow lights are for corals. Also let them know that the little baggy of white rocks is Magnesium or baking soda. It might behoove you to explain the function of the protein skimmer in a reef system and why you are buying a 32" clear cylinder that hold water with an input and an output with a collection cup. I have on many occasions walked out of a LFS with an arm full of goodies thinking "I sure hope I don't get pulled over because this looks very suspicious".
However, I would be interested to see if the MH ballast they are selling are usable in our hobby. I can get a few very cheap but didn't think the modifications needed to make them usable would be cost effective.

most of the ballasts are fine for reefing. pretty much same equipment except for bulb kelvins, Ive gotten alot of my tank supplies from hydro stores, pumps, heaters, 55 gallon drums, top offs and ro units.

Hanna tds meter,reads ph,tds(in ppm's),temp.comes w/ built in temp,also hanna ph probe.
large carbon room filter,
Hydro grow grow trey 2'x2',20g rez(sump LOL)and 6 buckets,,all white.also comes with all hose's and drippers/stakes,
humidifier and heater and way to many produces like fertilizers,grow cubes,odder control,seedling domes,hydro ton clay pellets,ECT. to name for hydroponics growing.
pretty much everything you need to grow ORCHID'S.
$900 obo,well over $2000 in products.
Everything is in "very new" condision

BTW,not everyone that has this equipment is growing pot OR braking the law, prop 215 (ca. health and safety code 11362.5)has been on the books now almost 14 years.
