View Full Version : Dry side feels pretty warm

Hey all,

Just installed some brand new MP-40Ws, and they make a bit of noise. I've tried moving them, and this seems to be as quiet as I can get them. The dry sides feel pretty warm though. Like, almost warm enough that I don't want to rest my hand on it for long. Is this normal? I have read in the manual that the vibration can cause excess heat and wear on the pump, so I just want to make sure these are running as expected.

Please advise.

Thanks,
-Mike

This is all normal. The pump should quiet down some after it breaks in but the heat you're describing is normal. The pump is thermally protected and will monitor itself. If it runs too hot it will blink a warning to let you know something is wrong.

Thats the heat this isn't going into your tank now!

Aquatic Hamster is 100% correct. Wattage is wattage. With our pump much of the heat is outside of the aquarium, and that is what you feel with your hand. Any other 30w submersible pump would be adding that same amount of heat directly into your tank.
