Octopus Vs MSX

Today i need to order my skimmer, but wath do you thing Octopus Extreme 300 or MSX 300, are the same?

The bodies are the same the MSX comes with a better pinwheel and a completed meswheel the octo has a nicer venturi but not any better functionally. I'd get the MSX.

I thought the 250 was better suited for the two sicce pumps than the 300.

Just make sure you've got some feedback from actual users before purchasing.

The MSX is a little cheaper with free shipping, and they have a better pinwheel.

Octo has a little better customer service overall.

You won't go wrong with either.

My Octo 300 is awesome. I love it. I do not have any experience with the MSX.

I have an MSX 250 and its great. The only problem was with the restart of the sicce pump. I have to say that the service was the best service in the world! All my emails (5) were answered in less than 2 hours!!. Finally the pump was replaced at no charge. Even shipping t return the pump was reimbursed.

what's wrong with octo skimmers... I just got mine, DNW-150 and I'm very pleased... already pulling out skimmate after 24 hours of use.

I have an octo and love it. I can't say that the MSX isn't better, as I have not tried it but I have 0 complaints about my octo.

These pictures are after 1 day! The skimmer is amazing compared to others i have seen in its price range.

Maybe it's me but I can not get my Octo to skim dry. I can only wet skim with it.

I wouldn't get either. The 300 body is big for 2 x Sicce pumps. I would get the MSX250. The MSX250 with the included PWs runs very well.

so MSX 160 or Octo 160. What is the difference in the pinwewheel?

The Octo PW is smaller and pulls a lot less air than the MSX PW. I dont recall the exact numbers.

msx and octo are the same skimmer delivered by the same chinese fabricator, sold under different suppliers. The 160,200,250 all include the same Sicce 2500 pump. The only differences are the colors and stickers on them. Most people upgrade to the ATB large purple pinwheel anyways. MSX offers a great meshwheel but if you're upgrading to the ATB for durability it doesnt matter which company you buy from. Octo has amazing customer service while MSX is run by 2 guys. From all I've heard msx guys are great to deal with anyways. I chose OCTO extreme 200 because I prefer the black plastic over the white offered by MSX. Mesh mod is not difficult, just buy the flat back mesh and you'll be good to go. MSX and OCTO are the same! I personally purchased OCTO over the claims of many who loved their customer service and the OCTO was available from Aquarium Specialty for cheap.

supposedly the new wheel used in the octo's (and maybe others as well) is better than the mesh mod. look it up before you do it.

I'm very happy with my DNW-150... pulling dark, dry skimmate after 32 hours.

Just put my msx160 in the water three hours ago. Running it with stock pinwheel. Already pulling skimate. I have a large atb pinwheel on order which should arrive later this week. If this skimmer is running this well with the stock pinwheel, I can't wait to see how it does with the atb.

Harlequin - While they do use the same bodies & pumps, the two are NOT identical.

The stock pinwheels are different as are the volutes. MSX has the better stock pinwheel.
