I just bought a 12"x12" Purple Monty cap.
Im going to want to frag it to get some of my money back.
Anyone who has fragged them have any tips ?
I have a 3"x3" Metalic orange Cap I got recently and I notice they are very brittle so Im hesitant about using a dremel to frag this big Monty..

i just break pieces of mine off when i need to frag them, i found that no matter how hard i tried, or what method i used, i could never break them exactly where i wanted.

Kinda what I was thinking.
I was also thinking of maybe an exacto knife to score where I wanted the break.
Then snapping it.
Now that I think about it I have to get it home and I will most likely have accidental frags..
Im going to budle up a towel to set it in a styrofoam fish shipment container hoping it wont move around to much

Hard not to get accidental frags with monties.
They can be really fragile- I'd bump mine every now and then while cleaning etc and Bingo - new frag. Grew so fast a week later never new anything was gone.

or just prune it by snapping off pieces growing where you don't want.

Ya I noticed today how fast they react.
First of all in his tank the surface of it was all smooth.
Yesterday I noticed it getting bumpy (crusting ?)and also where I accedently broke off a top piece under it had no color but today almost that whole surface is getting the color back and where ever I broke a piece off is getting the color back.
Also its not as brown anymore..
I took all the frags and left them in my tank including the colorless ones from the underside I will see if they grow out..
I have alot of space in my new 300 so I might as well grow out some of the nice curved pieces lol
Newer picture from last night note the surface aint smooth anymore
