I finished converting my w/d trickle filter into a s/r/r f. My sump flows into the refugium to fast stirring up the sand.

My refugium is already smaller than I want it to be so I do not want to add more baffels to slow the current coming from the sump.

My question is can I use lr instead of sand in my refuge or is it best to leave a bare bottom? Will it be as beneficial as sand, and when using lr can I still grow micro alage?

Live rock rubble works well for fuges. Easy to keep clean and goods for pods.

Never tried to grow any micro algae in mine though, only Cheato.

LR rubble is perfectly suited for fuges, I believe you want your fuge to be focused on MACRO Algae. This will be more "plant like" forms that will absorb nutrients that normally feed micro algae (the stuff that grows on the glass in your display).

Thanks.

Yes, I did mean macro.
