I am looking at used tanks to make a sump, alot of the tanks i find say they were used for lizards. is it ok to use a tank that housed lizards? thank you in advance for your help.

Most likely it's fine. Ask the person if there were ever any medications or chemicals used in the tank, and make sure it's a "real" aquarium designed for water - there are reptile cages made from glass not designed to hold water, and clearly you don't want one of those.

If in doubt, a soak in diluted muriatic acid will clean out just about anything.

we've heard that sometimes the heat from the lights dries out the silicone. personally we've used lizard tanks before and theyve been fine.

Glass is usually thinner for a terrarium . but if your water level is lower you should be fine.
