Just got my system 70 and began setting her up!! I started dropping wires in the wall down to the basement to have a central control system downstairs so i can keep all the wires neat and clean. For lighting i went with one 250w E-power pendant w/ an icecap ballast and a radium lamp. Ill update as progress is made but here is what i got thus far.

I see you have nice wood floors... make sure you protect them.. What I did was go to home depot or OSH and bought a 5 mil plactic sheet and cut it to the dimensions of the inside floor and going up the walls about 6 inches... I then taped the sheets to the inside wall using clear plastic 3M shipping tape. This will protect your floor from un-avoidable spills.

Last week my skimmer went haywire and overflowed and splatterd down the outside of the sump, I thought the sump was leaking... there was water in the inside floor of the cabinet, if it wasn't for the plastic i layed down, it would have ruined the floor.

Good Luck Mate!

check out nunze's thread he had a great idea to make a custom plastic tub to fit inside the stand I had one made by a custom fish tank maker for only 55 bucks it is perfect and water tight too. thanks for measuring the door mine is to small

well she is up and running! the cat hasnt moved from that spot since the first drop of water hit the glass :) good thing she has no claws or i would see this being a potential problem once i get any fish in there haha!

Do you think the heat from the light will affect the temperature setting on you home heater on the wall next to the light? you may have to turn up the house heat setting just to warm up the house in the winter, then turn it down when the tank light is out because it will be too hot.

I was thinking that myself. The Thermostat may need to be moved.

Looking good. Man I want a Elos..........

it desnt feel to be getting hot near the thermostat but i guess ill wait till the winter to find out if it is gonna be an issue :) If it is it wont be to hard to move it. :)
Anyway, did some work tidying up the sump and rigged up a DIY p04 reactor :) (works better than any fluidized bed reactor i have ever used) I also moved some of my LPS that have been sitting in my basement system awaiting the arrival of this tank. Figured id test the waters with the LPS before introducing any of my SPS.
Here is what i got thus far :)

Are those hoses going to a chiller? Did you just tee off your return pump to feed the chiller? I am still trying to figure out how to plumb in a chiller to my system since I can not use my drop in one. How is your skimmer working?

yeah that is a tee coming off the return pump into a ball valve to regulate flow feeding the chiller...then the hose closer to the front of the stand is the output from the chiller.

The skimmer works great once it broke in.... i let it run in the system i have set up in my basement which is well established in order to speed up the break in time. The first week or so it didnt really do much but by the third week it was starting to pull some nice goo :)

thanks, the light is also made by elos. if you are interested in getting one you should get in touch with jesse or your local elos dealer. They arent cheap but you get what you pay for. :)

yeah i am using the stock ehiem return pump and it is a 1/4hp artica that i had running on my old 90 gallon.

Sorry was reading this over again and realized i listed the wrong chiller :) it's actually the 1/4hp oceanic (not really a huge difference between the two anyway)

So anyway here is an update on the tanks progress. I needed some better light under the stand so i went to lowes and put in two Xenon HID under cabinet lights. Then i went to my local electrical supply store and picked up a N.C. SPST momentary switch and drilled a hole in the stand to recess the switch into the stand. So now my stand acts the same way a refrigerator door. The xenon HID's come on when you open the door to the stand and turn off when you close the door. I was having some issues with the door having enough weight to hold contact on the switch while closed so i also put in some cabinet door magnets to eliminate that issue.

As far as livestock goes...the LPS have been doing great so i moved a piece of green stylo in to see how SPS would hold up. So far so good! got really nice PE so i may try moving up a monti frag today :) if that goes well ill slowly start bringing up my acros!

For fish... i moved my picasso clown pair up from the basement system along with my blue star leopard wrasse. They are all doing great and eating like pigs as they always have.

However i am getting a bit of hair algae so i may move my mimic tang in sooner than i was expecting. This mimic tang is a hair algae eating machine! between the tang munching it down and the rowaphos sucking up the po4 it should clear up soon enough.

Not the greates pic but here is a more recent shot
