How can you pre-order? It says you can't at the site. I've been waiting for them to come in again!
Snarkys
06/18/2009, 12:00 PM
Occationaly if we have received tracking that some are on the way we will take pre orders over the phone.
We don't take per orders without seeing them on the way, otherwise we would have 100 of them on back order and customers waiting forever.

Any news on these pumps? My old one died and I'm getting tired off adding kalk manually every day.

our supplier is having major issues keeping up with demand on these . Seems demand has doubled in the last month or so and the motors come from overseas . We hey 20 every week or so and they and sell in hours.
However early next week we should have brand new doser we will be selling in addition to this one . I cant share any details yet but i think they should be up within a week .

I see there are 'oem' versions of the pumps on Ebay. Is the only difference b/t the oem and retail versions are wiring required and the motor is not protected?

we also wont be selling replacement parts for those we are just ebaying them to get rid of them. They are really nice pumps but we decided not to sell pumps without cases and cords.

I just bought 2 of them this afternoon, but when I checked the site, their were new doser pumps for sale. Am I going to get the drew's pumps or the BRS ones? Thanks!
Snarkys
06/27/2009, 09:39 AM
we plan on stocking both unless sales for one drops off to the point that it doesn't make sense.

Do the rollers prevent head pressure? The new 1.1ml/min are slow but should I be calculating for reduced flow if I put the pumps below the tank?
Snarkys
06/29/2009, 08:12 AM
it should be 1.1 at any head .
that said , you should test any pump before using to make sure

Will like to see your review for the BRS doser. I just received my second Drew's today as I have been very happy with the one I have had for several months. I have been using it to dose carbon and now using for 2 part.

This is pretty much the difference between two
The drew’s doser has four rollers and has proven to be a reliable and affordable option for dosing two part. We have been selling them for years and the failure rate in the one year warranty period has been significantly less than 1% . Down side is they are constantly out of stock due to a supply issue.
The new BRS doser has two rollers and looks to be superior . They seem to be more accurate from doser to doser, they operate at higher head pressures, the case and build is more solid, they dose slower, they have a proper mounting bracket, come with extension tube , the tubing set has better connection points and fittings . All that said they are not time tested with years of success like the drew’s dosers are.
Really I think there will be a market for both for a long time. Some poorly made dual roller pumps out there that have given them all bad names and many customers are simply more comfortable with the added security of the 4 roller design. Outside the aquarium industry a vast majority of dosing pumps in this price range are dual rollers and I have personally only come across one that has back siphoning issues .
Which one do I recommend? Whichever one is in stock at the time. They both have their advantages but ultimately I think they will both get the job done satisfactorily.
we now have a short video demo on them if you would like to watch one in action .

Thanks for giving us other options BRS!!!
I just got 2 of the new ones since the Drews where always out of stock. Quality of pumps seems decent. The bracket is well designed. Tubing connectors well designed. Connected them to a controller. Working fine. We shall see long term.
Will you be selling the peristalsic tubing for replacement?
Snarkys
07/03/2009, 01:29 PM
Yes we will be supporting them with replacement parts like tube.
Anything we sell on our site and produce or import ourselves we always plan on supporting for a significant period of time.
That would not be true with some stuff we ebay , ebay is ebay : )
Snarkys
07/03/2009, 01:31 PM
BTW I'm told at 4 hours of use a day the tube should last 2 years but I have not personally used them for that long to be able to confirm that .

Thats good to hear. I was a little hesitant at first being one of the first ones ordering it. The drews has a long history.
I ran a dry run right out of the box (with the appropriate 2 part solution for each) and got 10cc on both in ten minutes. It could have been 1.1 per minute but without more precise equipment its hard to tell, besides I dont think +/- one ml in ten minutes would make much of a difference for anyone that has a way of dosing with an accurate timer. Once its running, and tuned in, adding or subtracting minutes is going to be a breeze.
Thanks again.

No idea. But call them. They are very reseptive. So far new pumps are working great but understand you dilemma. I couldnt wait anymore as I am going on vacation and needed to automate asap.

when we get the Drew's dossers in they only last a few hours.
We have around 70 of the new BRS dosers left but i don't expect them to last more than a couple weeks and then we may be out for a month or two because our Italian supplier shuts down for a month in the summer. Its possible they will get the order out before that but we cant be sure.

I just ordered one of the 50ml ones for my ATO. Tired of the siphoning issues with my aqualifter. This should be a nice upgrade.

Just saw the special with the free 2 part mix with the Drew's.
Does this include the BRS dosers also. May have made the decision for me .

Sorry but the BRS dosers we just received were the wrong flow rate . They sent us a pallet of the 50ml/min top off ones on accident .
We wont have more BRS dosers until late september or early October .
Hi Snarkys, i have a few questions:
1. Do you see any issues with running the Drews Doser 24/7?
2. What is the rated lifespan of the Drews Doser?
3. Will it be okay to run kalkwasser into the tubing?
4. If the doser fails in one year under normal usage, will you replace it?
Thanks!
Snarkys
08/19/2009, 06:41 PM
they are not designed to run 24/7 and it will reduce the tube/motor life significantly . I have no idea how long it will last that way. Most continuous duty dosing pumps are going to be way more expensive than most reefers would want to pay.
For use with typical two part dosing it should last a few years.
kalk is fine
they do have a one year warranty for normal few hour a day usage.

I see the Drew's pumps were removed from the site today after they became out of stock. Will the BRS dosers be the only available pumps for the foreseeable future? I assume the new BRS ones won't be available until September/October?

Hi Snarky,
I have a 180g fish & coral tank with a calcium reactor and I am planning to install a kalkreactor. My plan is to have my ATO system bring in Kalkwasser until desired pH is achieved, as measured by a pH controller. Once the pH controller reaches 8.3, it will flip a relay switch from Kalkwasser to fresh RO/DI water to complete the top off. I lose about 4 litres per day to evaporation. I am wondering if Drews at 1.5 mL/minute will be too slow to achieve the desired effect. I'd appreciate your advice. I also noted earlier in this string that you received pumps that did not meet your specs and that pumped faster. Do you still have them? Cheers, Knishfish
Snarkys
12/21/2009, 07:52 PM
the pump is pretty slow and would be on a good portion of the day.
I would consider something a bit faster so it isn't on constantly. http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/store/products/pumps-and-plumbing/dosing-pumps-and-auto-top-off-systems/brs-top-off-doser-50-ml-per-minute.html

hard to say on these .
I would note that the BRS dosers are also running low (maybe 50 left) and due to their European source it may be 4-6 month before we get more in

What is the max head on the Drew's Dosers. I need to pump at least 4 to 5 feet up to my tank. Thanks.

it will dose that high without any problems : )
