I have been looking into Koralias and I ran across these
http://www.amazon.com/1300-Coral-Aquarium-Makers-Powerhead/dp/B002480V32

I am upgrading my 20h to a 40b and I was thinking of a K3 on one side and a K2 on the other. Any ideas.. I would love to get a vortec but way out of my price range. Thanks for the help

They are all over ebay. If there isn't any right now, wait ten minutes.

I got a K4, a K3, and 2 K2s, for under $100... shipped a few months ago.

Next question should I get the controllable koralia or just the regular

Depends on how much you want to spend. The controller is more expensive obviously, but it does add nice random water movement.

with controller price + pumps you can get a vortec mp40

I was hoping I could get the controllable koralias and then the controller but apparently you have to use them on the controller if using those.. So I guess I sticking with plan Koralia

i was going to do the same thing as you and buy the controller later on but then figured out that you do need the controller to run them at all.But there is a way to make something that will make them work someone told me but i have know idea how to make it

You dont want to try and rig your own controller for the controlable Koralias. not only does it void their warranty, but trying to run the chips in them properly on a home built controller is a nightmare.

Your plan of a couple of standard Koralias is a good one. If you want a cheap wavemaker, buy a Koralia Magnum and a timer. The Magnums are designed to work on a cheap wavemaker. They are shaftless and can take the start-stop abuse. One Koralia Magnum 5 on a wave maker will move a ton of water back and forth.

I have the 2-way controller with 2 magnum 5s in a 58gal (3 foot tank) and I love them. Don't waste your money on a Vortech

I found a good deal on 2 K3 for 29 a piece so I will use them. Hopefully it will be enough flow for my tank
