I have orange algea so bad. Its not brown, I got past the diatom stage. My 90 gal tank has been set up and running good-not great sence jan. I study reef central and try to stick with the tried and true methods here. But this orange stuff is crazy. I change 15 gals of water every week. the lights are only on for 9 hours a day. I have a great cleaner crew, lawnmower blenny, scooter blenny, cleaner shrimp, 2 peppermint shrimp, camel hump shrimp, turbo snals, red and blue legged crabs and a coral beauty. I also have the regular hair algea and just general green stuff that grows. Not too bad and I kinda like the way it looks. But this orange stuff has got to go. any ideas?

probably just a part of the cycle. ive heard stories of the wierd outbreaks and they just come and go. I would wait and see what happens. Are you using RO/DI water? If you want to try somthing, maybe cut back the lights to 6-8 hours. Dont feed as much. Try to remove as much as you can with a siphon.

Also give us nitrate and phosphate levels if you have tested for those.

I use the 5-n-1 test kit from jungle.
nitrate is 20--pale pink
nitrite is 0--white
alkalinty is 300--dark
ph is 7.8--between the pink and orange
phosphate --i kinda figure i must be on the high side. i do have alot of blue-green algea. i feed a wide varity of frozen foods. i have a anemone...really two. Had them for about a month. They are beautiful and healthy. Still trying to get the pic thing to work.

You may consider using an iron based phosphate removal product.

This may help you post Photobucket Pics (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=531326).

i do spoil the fishes a bit. its so hard to have them look at me like that. and everybody wants to see the anemonea eat. at this point i try to feed only for "shows".
