my aquarium has taken on a weird smell. this is my first saltwater aquarium but i have several freshwater. is this normal? its like as soon as you walk into the room where the aquariums is you smell this stinch.

No, I don't think that's normal. My saltwater tank doesn't have a smell. My freshwater tanks don't either.

Is your tank newly set up?

If it stinks then something has died or you have LR that is curing. If it smells like the ocean then that is normal.

Do you run carbon or are you totally natural? I've noticed when my carbon starts to become spent, I kind of get that lowtide smell

Skimmer? Mine makes my wetroom stink on about day 5 and I know it's time to empty it.

You got any leftover flake or frozen food stuck to the top edges of your tank? They can really stink up a storm given moisture & time.

All good suggestions. I have the same problem with activated carbon. When it no longer works it's starts to stink up a bit.

Or if you have been keeping saltwater as long as I have it may be that I passed by your house. :D

lol thats to funny.

nope not my skimmer as its emptied and cleaned ever two days.
nothing dead. no extra food anywhere either.
the tank has just a week or two ago gotten new DSB, but the live rock is the same old suff. i cant figure it out. it does have that "low tide" smell.
