Hello,
I recently added a coco work to my tank. After I drip aclimated it for about 45 mins I placed it in the tank it a low-mid flow area. It opened up within about 20 mins. It was open all the time except if something touched it or a fish swam by. Well about a week later I noticed it not coming out at all. Upon closer inspection of the tank I found 2 'heads' of the worm. Is it dead or will these grow back?

live stock
2 clowns
1 pep shrimp
1 erchin
5-8 hermits (mix of blue legged and scarlett legged)
1 frog spawn about 5" in diameter and about 20" away from the coco worm
1 small crocea clam
3-4 astrea snails ( will be gettinf more snails this weekend)

water
ph-8.5 steady
nitrates 1-2 before water change ( every 2 weeks)
phos-0
calcium-370 (still working on the ballance for the clam
ammonia-0

Equipment
80 gallon tank
remora c with mag 5 pump
4 T5s 2 actanics, 1 16K power-glo, 1 6.5K life-glo
2 koralia 2s, 2 other power heads about 600gph each
10-15 gallon fuge with cheato and carbon
about 80lbs live rock
80-90lbs of argonite

Any ideas?

what do you mean you noticed 2 heads?

Well when he was out he had 2 little stalks might be a better word. They where about 1 1/4" long and looked to be spiral shaped like a peice of pasta. Then there was the 'fluffy stuff' attatched to those stalks. I never saw the stalks without the fluff but noticed the 2 stalks on the bottom of the tank.

Im not sure. I have read that feather dusters and coco worms can drop their head, Im assuming thats the fluff on the end and grow a new one. Just not sure what they consider the head.

Yeah, they can lose their "feathers" and still be alive. I've had it happen several times. Think of it as molting. When its new feathers have grown long enough it will pop them out again. In the meantime, leave it in the same spot and by no means remove it from the tank!
