I've used this in the past as filter padding and stopped due to concerns of fire retardants. Just figured I'd let people know that I asked Fairfield the makers of poly-fil batting if they use fire retardant chemicals on their poly-fil batting. They replied that they dont use it on any of their polyester batting because 100% polyester can't support a flame on its own. So, back to poly-fil for me:)

what if it says "hypoallergenic"? is that accomplished by a chemical treatment?

I think just by being basically plastic, it is relatively inert and thus hypoallergenic. Just a guess though
