Iam in the process of slowly taking out the sand in my sump. I scoop out a little bit a day it was about a 4'' DSB. Iam going to put in some LR to take the place of the sand. My question is do you need to have a light in order for the live rock to remain alive? I dont plan on putting any chaeto back in there but the light is just a 6500k swirly light from HD and a clamp on lamp fixture.

In a cryptic zone refugium, no light is required for the live rock. Sponges and sea squirts thrive in on live rock in a cryptic zone. Here are some reading material:
