I suggest you feed him better (spot feedings) to make him slightly lazy...they he'll be accustomed to waiting for you to feed him and won't bother hunting for himself. (Even that's the exact opposite of what you should want")

Nice aquascaping though!

I dont hand feed him. He eats everything on his own i keep the tank stocked. I put grass shrimp in all the time and he hunts them down. I'v tried to stick feed him but he just hits it away.

I don't really see the problem. Are you trying to get him to eat frozen? Just don't put a clean up crew in until you get him use to eating frozen. You should see my G. chiragra tank, there are times when I clean the gravel and find mass graves of snail shells. I mean a ton. It's kind of scary, don't worry, your N. wennerae heap isn't bad at all. Look at it this way, he's got a good appetite and won't rip off his raps anytime soon.

Looks like the back of my nano! My mantis only eats frozen about once every two weeks the rest of the time he gets all types of live food. The down side is that i hardly ever see him hunt. I just hear the clicking.

nikesb41...your local clean-freak here. lol !!! Please clean out the old shells and things. There can be little pieces of leftover snail, etc. that can decay and foul your water...and then you really will have trouble. Just my suggestion. You have a protein skimmer don't you? That helps a bunch. I have to clean it out every week because that's where Bree does "her business"...right underneath of it. They are really a clean species...amazes me.

PS...I got a pair of those cheap tongs and use those to pick-up her discarded shells.

agree with koshmar. it's good to know that your guy is smashing away and keeping his rapts healthy.

lol a lot of it is marsh snails, then some is marsh crabs, some of it is rock peices. I have a running skimmer, I'll just sift out the big peices with a net. I thaught it was funny and figured I would share with you guys lol.

It is funny, nikes !!!! I have to clean up carcasses themselves as bree has decided to suck the body fluids out and then throw the body outside her burrow for me..YUK !!!

I cleaned out about 10 snail shells outta my tank after reading this thinking to my self " this tank does look kind of morbid." I placed all the shells and some other pieces of rock that i don't care for in a plastic tub. I went to throw the tub away and found dozens of cope pods scurrying around in the bottom. So i dumped most of the shells back in where the mantis can either throw them out, or stack with them.

Yeah, I just leave them in there for reef rubble and hermits to use during their short stay if they molt. Building materials and pod homes, nothing wrong with leaving shells in if they don't have dead bodies in them.
