Or 1 Vortech MP10/MP20, either one.

I have an MP20 on my Solana and think its perfect depending on what you want to keep. My tank is all SPS and I don't think the MP10 would have been quite enough.

If you use most of the power, the MP10 will be fine, for most tanks.

Flow: 500 to 1575 gph

Your probably right. I am just basing this on my tank only. The MP20 at full strength Reef Crest is perfect...could even be a little stronger actually.

Right.

It depends on what the OP ultimately wants to keep. But I can't wait for the MP10 to come out.

I'm with you on that one JustinReef. I had the mp10 on pre-order and cancelled it because I was sick of waiting and I'm glad I did. I got the mp20 and I think it's perfect. The mp10 wouldn't have been enough for my tank either. They are definitely some cool pumps though.

$100 is $100.

And I am not ready to purchase the MP10 anyways ($200 short). ;)

I'll start saving my pennies when it comes out. Like you said, it's been on "pre-order" for ever. Which leads me to believe they could be having some sort of problem. I will let the early adapters chime in before I drop $200 for it.

I have a feeling thats a good idea to wait and see how the initial response is. I have been kind of wondering why the MP10 has been so delayed. Especially since it is essentially the same design as the MP20 and 40.

How about maxi-jets powered by the Aquarium Systems wavemaker?

Less control in flow. The MJ is a certain amount of GPH, and that's it. The MP10/20's are adjustable flow.

I'm really kind of disappointed with the MP10...wait, can I be disappointed in it since I haven't seen it in action? Yes. To me, they really missed the boat on the price point. If it were closer to $150 I think they'd have a winner. But at just shy of $200, it'd be hard for me to justify buying the MP10 when I can have an MP20 for just 100 bucks more. That's just me though, and I'm sure they'll sell plenty of units at $200.

Well that $100 difference is all the difference to me. I don't need it to move any more water than the MP10 is supposed to move anyways. Which is why I am anxiously awaiting "early adopters" reviews. It seems Vortech is having a problem with these little guys...

Right, and like I said, I have no doubt Ecotech will sell a ton of the MP10's. But for me, it's hard to justify not spending the extra $100. I can turn it down to get the flow that I need now, and it would give me flexibility if (reads when) I upgrade to a bigger tank in the future. That's just me though.

Of course, by my own logic, where does it stop? It's only another $100 for the MP20, and it's only another 100 bucks to go with the MP40 over the MP20. And it's only another 150 bucks for a battery backup. Which at that point, it's only a couple hundred more to get 2 MP40's...good lord, no wonder the lfs owner's faces light up when they see me coming. Guess you gotta draw the line somewhere.
