They are ok, i quite like them, there's a big thread in reef discussion on them, most folk don't seem to like them much.

everyone needs to relax, geez they are living animals and they look happy, they would be swimming backwards or upside down if they were ill, dang give ora credit they did and awsome job creating a new species, look we never had piccasso's and now everyone wants one........ all this talk about poor guys and ewwww but if they cost $10.00 each you would have one in a heartbeat, dont lie to yourself....

i agree with oceancube78... people are more disgusted in the price of them then anything. the white coloration is from selective breeding, possibly inbreeding but i figure with a company like ORA inbreeding wasnt done. if your breeding picassos with picassos your eventually going to get a morph like "platinum"

same with naked clowns..

OrionN

no, not new species

melanotaenia

with exclusivity comes increased price; the same holds for most products, and sadly, fish.

I think they are kind of neat, but I like the Picasso look better.

They're okay. To each his own of course. If they were the same price, or even less, than Picassos, I would still choose Picassos. But to some these fish will be worth every bit of their asking price. That's the great thing about capitalism! :)

it's like someone used an eraser and erased off all the orange, haha. I could see the scales on those clowns. And pretty soon, they'll have ones that are completely white! :)

PE is the company name, pristine energetics

Their mysis have much higher fat content than the rest including H* due to their unique grow out area, the mysis travel 200m in the Gracia lake to the top to eat plankton so giving them a much heavier insulation (i.e. fat) contents.

Unfortunately, not many shops carry it due to their distribution (i.e. associated with cost).

*Canadian product*

considered that the last one that was almost completely white was sold for US$32,000 at thailand (A.polymnus), these are a steal.....

What is the difference between snowflake and Platinum Picassos?

marc price
06/03/2009, 07:26 PM
big difference between A. polymnus and A. percula, the latter being the species "platinum's" were developed from. snowflake's are A. ocellaris.

i remember seeing a pic of the "white polymnus" and if i'm not mistaken it looked much better than those i've seen of "platinum's". i like the polymnus teardrop body shape and don't care for the body shape of percula's (juvies are cute). i'm more inclined to want a compressed teardrop shape plain jane over graphic patterns of a square jawed goofy looking face on a torpedo body type clownfish. still the smaller size and "community tank fish" nature of percula is a plus.

ora produces polymnus, who know perhaps they'll develop a white polymnus too??

The picasso patterns are naturally occurring, this is not. That's the difference.

And no, I wouldn't buy them even if they were $10 each. :)

These fish look much better in person under a 14k+ lighting. I saw they pair that douglam mentioned earlier, they were in a solana under a DE Phoenix bulb and they looked pretty sweet. I guess some black will develop on the dorsal as they mature.

melanotaenia
06/04/2009, 08:19 PM
I think that these guys need some time to really show their true colors; I bet when the black starts to set in they are going to look much better, hopefully someone will post some pics in the near future of a more mature pair.

Only if they can put the sign "ORA" in the middle of that white space, that would be awesome.

In marketing, that much white space in the middle is really a waste of precious marketing area
