I remember reading a while back someone was working on pairing some Emperators thought I would check to see how it was going I am thinking about trying it myself.
I have an established about half changed juvinile in my 480 and today I got a nearly changed Juvinle about 2 inches larger than the one I have and put it in quarantine. Now I am trying to decide if this has a chance of working any thoughts?

Yes you can pair them. Just make sure that the new one goes through intensive QT and is fat as can be when you introduce them to the main tank.

Copps is pairing his Christmas island emps. So far so good I think. I am sure he will pipe in.

Would it be best to add them at the same time if you could? Possibly QT both in the sake tank with eggcrate dividing them? What angels can't be paired if any? I know there's a huge risk involved with just mixing angels, let alone pairing, but I think anything is possible. I am not trying this anytime soon, my tank is far too small, but just curious and love to know everything I can about angelfish.

I kind of think you are pressing your luck. Can't you be happy just mixing large angels of different types? Do you want a war in there?? Just my gut opinion on the idea. Not the gospel. Good luck, Lesley

I think there are at least a couple that for whatever reason just are not pairable. Of the top of my head, I can't ever remember seeing a pair of Majestic angels.

I think its not so much that they aren't pairable its more that people have been told that you can't keep more than one angel in a tank plus lack tanks large enough to even try to begin with.
For years it was "common" knowledge that you can't keep more than one angel in a tank. I know of several people myself included that have blown that idea out of the water.

I know people have kept pairs of emporers before and their is no reason any of the rest of the Pomacanthus sp can't be paired as well. Mostly it should come down to having a large enough tank and a male and female. It seems that a good deal of the Angelfish species start as females and turn into males so that gives a person place to start.
Also for anyone worried if I try it and it doesn't work out I also have a 375g tank to move it into.

Don't eat that sandwich! Or is it a hot dog you have there?

Sorry for chiming in late... I'm usually in the Reef Fishes forum... My two Christmas Island emps in my 292... still getting along, although still a long way from pairing... as I always say it's not what you mix, but how you mix...

I find it best to buy your fish already paired. Take the guess work out. Yes it is possible to find vendors that do this.
