Do acans ever spread by their "heads" detaching from the main colony? I have had two heads do this in the last week. If not what would cause them to do this?

what do you mean "detaching"? like splitting or spreading like xenia, spawning in the middle of no where?

Never heard of this phenomenon. You mean the tissue actually separated from the skeleton? If that is the case I think you may have some kind of predator in the tank!

Yes . It almost looks like a mushroom that is floating around. It still has great color.

never heard of acans doing this, but many other types of lps, commonly euphyllas, do it when conditions aren't right.
