What are you using to store your RO/DI water and mixed saltwater, and where'd you get it? I can't get a huge vat or anything, it is for an apartment. Isn't there a particular brand of trash can that is known to be safe to use?

Thanks!

brute cans or stock tanks from farm and fleet is what i use.

Brute Trash Can's here, and a graduated cylinder 55G, but no need for that, just get Brute Trash Can's, most all stores carry them.

Brute cans suck for storing long term. For mixing and short term storage they are fine.

Is there anything wrong with using the 5gal jugs you get when you buy the pre-mix, don't know what size tank you have me only a 24gal,would seem ok for me.

It's for a 90gal tank. I'm planning ordering my LR and stuff from TBS, so I'll need to have a lot of mixed sw ready on hand for water changes. Looks like I'll grab a 30-40gal brute trash can. Thanks everybody.

I use two 55 gallon tanks on a tri-level rack. Top tank (mid level)is for RO/DI, and the bottom tank is for mixing and storing SW. The top level was converted into a shelf to keep my ballasts on.

Why do you say this? Do they fail?

Many people have problems with phosphate issues when using them for long term storage. A strong indicator of issues is the fact that the majority of people that use them experience a weird brown growth that requires scrubbing with vinegar to get the can clean. I have 2 Brute cans and a 65 gal storage container. I never have issues with the 65gal container but constantly need to clean the cans.

So you mean long term storage for mixed Saltwater, not RO water

Saltwater makes it appear quicker but I get it with RODI water as well.

i was going to pick this one up from Farm & Fleet next time i am out in Bourbanais.
NSF certified according to the manufacturer's website, has graduated markings on the side, and a bulkhead fitting on the bottom, and it only costs $100.

I have one I purchased from USplastics.com and it is a 55G with graduated markings on the side with a lid and a 3/4" valve on the bottom, I have been using it for 2 years to store water and nothing at all has grown inside of it, so I know they are good for sure, it was about $100 as well. Works good.

Here are the 2 that I use for ATO and RODI storage.

I had a bad experience using the brute. Major phosphate issues with plain RO water. For the time being I've been using 5 gallon salt buckets for storing the water.

I was thinking about getting a tub used for whole house water softners, they are tall and skinny, usually rectangle and obviously food grade to store water so the plastic shouldn't leak chemicals.
