Can the individual LED's be removed/replaced within the E-light? Are replacement LED's available through ELOS? Interested in changing the spectrum to a more 14K look.

Call Jesse when he gets back about the "Marine" version of the e-lite. It's new, it's around 12-14kish, I have it, I like it.

Basically instead of 3 blue LEDs on the original version (for Fresh or SW), there are now 6 blue LEDs.

Cheers

Hey motionless,
I already have the regular light, just wondering if that can be modified/individual LED's changed out?

Thanks,
Bill

I don't know if you can modify the light, it appears to be sealed via adhesive (the clear lens is the only way to access the internals from what I can tell). Additionally I suspect that if they are using high power LEDs like Cree, you would need to have very good soldering skills to replace the LEDs.

If you don't mind supplementing the e-lite with something seperate, I suggest looking to a project called "Pico LED" on the nano-reef forums. A user there "evil66" is making them. Basically they are screw-in medium light bulb bases that will work in any medium base 120v light bulb socket. The power supply and driver is built into the lamp. He's selling both "12k" and "20k" versions. I have a couple on order, will post pics when I receive them in a few weeks.

I wonder if you can send it in to Jesse/ELOS and have the LED's changed out? What is the opinion/experience, etc... on intesity, will this light support SPS corals? What is the color of the standard E-Light comparable to - 10K? I also bought the ELOS Silver Moonlight which I guess if I had to I could have on in conjunction with the E-Light during the day to provide a more blue-ish 14K look. I have not received my tank setup yet from ELOS and the light I purchased used from a fellow ReefCentral member. I am presently away on business so I haven't even seen the light fixture yet which is waiting for me at home. Thanks for all the info.

I was wondering about supplementing as well and asked about the Elos moonlight providing some extra blue. I was told that the moonlight was not bright enough to make any difference during the day. I ended up purchasing the Neptune Lunar Simulator with 2 LEDs. It's on at some points during the day when the e-Lite is on and I can't see any difference from when it's off. So I would guess it'll take a lot more than a moonlight to supplement the e-lite.

I wasn't crazy about the color at first but I had VHO's over my 125 gallon so I was used to a really blue looking tank. I've adjusted and don't mind the color now. I wish I would of known about the "Marine" version a few months ago because I would of gone with that but it's not a big enough deal that I'll worry with selling this current light just to buy another.

aqualab-

Both the standard e-lite and the marine version can support SPS growth. I have my SPS (Acro, monti) about 10-12" from the bottom of the e-lite, and they are growing quite well.

Regarding the kelvin rating, I don't know what the standard one is. To my eye, it looks to be on the colder side of 10k, at least compared to my fresh water "10k" bulbs I gave in my other tanks.

The Elos moonlight isn't going to be noticeable when you have it on with the e-lite. You'll need some high power royal blue LEDs like 3-watt Cree, SSC, Luxeon, etc to be able to match the intensity of the e-lite LEDs.

There's another thread in the nanotank section, I think by "noobietanker". She's got an Elos Mini and using LED spot lights mounted in ceiling track lighting to supplement. I may do something similar, but wall mounted since it's not feasible for me to mount anything on my ceiling.
