Hi There,

My name is Justin. My wife and I bought tickets to MACNA and are trying to find a decent hotel for cheaper that is near the convention center where MACNA will be held, is there maybe a nearby town (like within' 15 minutes drive to the convention) that has like a Red Roof Inn or something similar that we could book for probably half the cost of hotels in Atlantic City itself? We are travelling down from Vermont. Any help would be greatly appreciated...we are both very excited about attending our first MACNA convention!!!

stupid question but you do know there is a block of rooms at a good rate at the sheraton right? that's the one where the block of hotel rooms is set aside for the conference. You have to mention the Marine Aquarium Conference.

I said macna and the operator said - we do not sell burgers.

just joking...but she had no clue what macna is.

As far as suitable alternatives - i'm not from south jersey so maybe one of the other members/folks that live there can pipe up.

you could also try this post in the Nj reefers forum.

Yeah, I did know about the block of rooms but figured by now they would be gone plus I think they're still $139 per night and if possible I'd like to find something closer to $100 or below (not a roach motel and not in a bad part of town but doesn't need to be fancy).

i was under the impression the initial bloc was taken but more were added.

I looked at the sheraton and without the discount - the going rate is $260 avg per night (fri to sun).

From the pics i've seen of other macnas - the folks tend to hang out together in the hotel. There will probably be rock band competitions etc.

So i guess what I am saying is - for a few dollars more you could be at the main hotel...walking to and from the convention center.

But there is at least one place I checked that has a rate of $110 -but it's north of AC off Brigatine Beach called the Brigatine Inn. It's one of those timeshares. I would grade them slightly better than a motel but the facility is really old. We've stayed there before and let's just say there is nothing to write home about. But it's a bed, and the place is basically on the beach.

You can stay at any of the motels/hotels which are a short drive (like 5min) from the convention center, on rt 30, from anywhere's between $29 for a dumpy no name motel, to around $80 a night for something like comfort Inn, day's Inn and so on. Then there is always the casino's like showboat, Taj, Marina, Tropicana, Harrah's and the borgota just to name a few.

Hi Justin, I live about 15 min from AC near the MACNA event. There are three ways to get into and out of Atlantic City. Rt 40, Rt 30, and the AC expressway. If you head about 15-20 minutes west of Rt 30, you'll hit a town called Absecon, Zip is 08201. On rt 30 itself, you will find about 5 to 6 different hotels on the highway, but it's not like a major highway or anything, as it's inside town. It's decently priced around there, and there are a few places where you can also have dinner etc. Having driven from the West coast to the east coast in 7 days and a fully loaded car, I know safety is somewhat of a concern; it's pretty darn safe around here (on route30), Enjoy your stay in Jersey!
