About what kind of light output can I expect. More? Less? I know it depends on the bulbs used but I am just looking for a general idea. I am currently running 2x250 MH Phoenix bulbs on a PFO HQI ballast. My only goal is to reduce overall heat produced (apartment gets hot as hell) while keeping similar light output(to keep my sps). Tank is a 90 gallon Oceanic Tech.

what about a constellation? I think you would be good with the tx5 but would be better off getting the 7 bulb constellation

Problem is that i have a 90g Tech tank and the opening on top is pretty narrow. I want to say 13" in or so off the top of my head. I have no idea why oceanic didnt go with a clear plastic instead of the black.

Netboy,
Going from a 2x250W setup to a 48" TX5, you will see a slight, if any, drop in overall intensity, but more in uniform light throughout the tank. You should have no problems in the switch. Your corals will just need some time to adjust from a MH setup to a all T5HO setup.
Thank you,
Tom

Thanks Tom, one more question on the TX5 how is the fan noise compared to the MH/T5 combo? I used to have one and the fan was way too loud for my taste.

netboy,
The TX5 is nearly silent. It is nothing compared to the MH/T5 Classic's two 120mm fans. You will barely know it's on.
Thank you,
Tom

My TX5 is dead silent and my tank is right next to my bed.
