View Full Version : Tank lighting sufficient? 90 Gallon

Hi everyone. I plan on having a basic reef in my 90 gallon tank. Mostly soft corals, depending on what I can handle.

I'm still a little confused on the true difference between soft and hard corals, but to generalize, the soft corals are easier/with easier lighting than hard corals.

So.. back to what I was saying:

I plan on buying 4 of these t5's and installing them into my canopy:

Are these lights good? They are on top sellers on the site. I also plan to buy 2 of these:

These reflectors are for my lights.

Is this lighting alone enough? Also, there is a brace on the top of my tank. Can the lighting be hot enough to warp it and cause danger within the tank/seams?

I have my own canopy custom built and it sits about five inches above the tank.

My tank is used and also came with another 2 "actinic" bulbs, 48" with reflector.
Not sure exactly what bulbs they are, I can post a pic if needed. Should I put these into use?

Is this lighting going to cost a lot electricity wise? It shouldn't be more than 200 watts all together, so I would think its power efficient.
Please let me know.

Thanks for all your help!

Go to the lighting forum and there is a specific thread on T5 lighting, They can get you exactly what you want for what you want, also any other lighting ideas can get answers in the lighting forum.
