The only information I found was that the AquaIllumination uses a serial interface to control the lights. The Apex, same as the AquaSurf is a voltage control system found in many devices which use a variable voltage (from 0 to 10 vdc) to vary things like intensity or flow (e.g., Tunze Stream, BubbleKing pumps and some lighting systems but I don't have specifics at the moment).

I can't speak for Neptune but you best bet would be to find out if the lighting company plans a control interface using a variable voltage. Lacking that you can see what Curt says about possible future support for serial devices.

I'm curious about this as well...I think the 1-10v control could work with AquaIlluminations...not sure though

The AI lighting systems are controlled with a serial communications protocol, not the 0-10V interface. A special module is required to connect it to an Apex system.
We have not announced Apex support of the AI lighting fixture at this time, but you can expect us to have many Apex compatible modules which will support 3rd party equipment. The order that these modules are developed is determined by the demand and the market size. If you have a particular module request let us know; send an email to sales@neptunesys.com.

Cerreta has a good post on this.

I need this functionality as well. I guess the Profilux has it?

you have to go with GHL controller + AI led

What are the odds of the Profilux LEDControl1 unit working with an Apex?

What are the odds of the Profilux LEDControl1 unit working with an Apex?

Not knowing the unit I would say 0 (it will not work).

based on the information at Reef Builders.com /2009/12/07/ledcontrol1-led-controller-profilux/ (RC wouldn't let me link directly)
The only input looks to be a 0-10V line. I am really tempted to give it a try for $60.

The link doesn't work but if it is a 0-10vdc system it should work with the Apex.

Yeah!!!! Give it a shot and let the rest of us know if it works! Would be awesome if it does. I love the idea of one manufacturer supporting the other without promoting it!

After looking things over I am not even sure if the Profilux LEDControl1 can control the Aqua Illumination fixtures (even when used with a Profilux controller).

Any new info on this?

......there seem to be a lot of people buying AI LED's and following that up with a profilux controller based on the great reviews of compatibility/functionality. Is Neptune getting lots of request for AI LED functionality?

I hope they plan on releasing something. The Profilux is way expensive!

I am also interested in this. I am leaning towards buying these lights and planning on upgrading my AC3 to an apex very soon. I am going to go with an Apex Lite, so I hope there is an additional module in the future to support the AI lights
