does any one know anything about red emerald crabs? I have a crab that looks like a emerald crab with spotted calws and white and red stripped legs. Is this a emaerald crab or not? It behaves just like one and seems to be eating algee only. I would have a pic of it but it stays very hidden in the rocks .

Mithrax crabs do come in red as well as green. Try to get a pic of it. You can try luring it out with some food and grab it.

I'm giving it away for free, but since you're not local, you'd have to pay the shipping...probably not worth it.

I'll 2nd what Rick said. Also IME they seem to get quite a bit larger than the green ones.

the red emerald crab is Mithraculus forceps, one that is much like the Mithrax hispidus, you acknowledge that the spines of the carapace has two ends and he eats coral.
Unlike Forceps that feeds on algae, including eating algae bubbles.

this is the hispidus, which besides having the thorns with two tips they grow much more, arriving a few 50cm.
