ASM G2 skimmer mods

I have an ASM G2 skimmer and I like it a lot but I find that I am fine tuning it a lot after water changes and emptying the collection cup. I am looking into the gate valve mod and wanted to know if anyone had any experience doing it? I know there are other mods out there and am looking for anyone's experience in doing any of these mods. Links would be nice too but Im looking more for personal experience if you have any with this skimmer.
