I wouldn't do it, that brace is there for a reason.

Don't cut it out. Its whats stopping your tank from bowing and shattering all over your living room.

do not cut it out. they use thinner glass these days so they have to put the brace there.

Agreed with all the above.

You could, possibly, remove it and replace it with a thick glass one-- silicone it in place. I still wouldn't do it.

If you just don't want it in the center, you could possibly replace it with 2 smaller ones offset toward each side. That would leave the center section open for you.

I wouldn't touch it. Everyone is right, cutting it would allow your tank to bow, and the seams would separate, spilling everything on the floor. You would be taking a huge risk by replacing it with offset ones also. IMHO

Cutting it might not be a good idea, as other have eluded that the center brace is a structural piece to prevent bowing of the glass. It would be my recommendation to work your way around it. Hope it helps!!!!!

I had a 55 with a broken center brace for a couple years. It bowed some. That was my first tank and fresh water. Knowing what I know now I wouldn't keep a tank without the center brace. Of course, I was renting then and own now. Changes things a little I guess.

thanks. Im depressed now, my tank started leaking and i sent my neighbor to get me a new one and this is the one she came back with. The damn brace is in the way.

Does anyone think i can notch it alittle. 1/2 inch on one side of it?

What is the brace in the way of? IMO, even notching it will compromise the stability.
