To have your nano plumbed in the main/other system?

Don't see why not. I have a 20L that has a 200 gallon sump :)

I thought I was the only one with this configuration.

Yes you can do what ever you like with it. But, the question will become is it still considered a nano tank? I not starting anything, but I see it debated all the time.

Of course it will still be a nano tank the display is the display. That would be like calling 5 60 gallon tanks a 300 gallon tank. It's not. It's 5 tanks sharing the same water. Your tank would still be a nano. Just curious as to why you're so worried about stupid biased classification?

it isnt really the same thing....5 60's is a three hundred gallon system, likewise a 20 with 200 sump is a 220 gallon system...neither of which a can be considered a nano (unless you compare it to the ocean, and that is just a dumb comparison)

the difficulty in keeping a nano is in the very limits of it confines, and that it has a very small volume of water to deal with....some say 20 gallons, some thirty, regardless, the volume of water is tiny compared to larger standard tanks, and making it work and thrive is the fun of a nano, and this helps you develop a better understanding of the miniature environment you have built and maintain...

can a table glass with a table spoon of sand, a piece of rubble and a snail, continually overflowing into a 50 gallon sump be considered a Pico? no, but is it allowed? sure you can do what ever you like...but the size of the display does not dictate which category of tank size it falls into...

Just my .02

as for doable/allowable...anything in this hobby is, with enough imagination and money...

I think it should still be considered a nano tank, but not a nano system, and the nano systems are the true nano tanks

I'm afraid you won't be able to park in the nano tank owners only parking spaces anymore.:(

And this is what I was afraid of..... anywho I ordered an overflowbox yesterday and am going to do it regardless. Happy reefing;)

As far as RC is concerned the sump size is not an issue....

"The original intent of the nano tank forum was to provide a place for those who keep smaller tanks. These smaller tanks have requirements and restrictions imposed on the owners not common to Aquarists with larger tanks. What was a small group of people with small tanks has grown exponentially into a larger group with even larger tanks.

After receiving feedback from members and after thorough discussion among the staff we've decided to limit posting in the Nano forum to tanks with a main tank of 34 gallons and under. No distinction will be made for conventional tanks or All In One tanks (AIO), or for sump sizes no matter what they may be.

This is not an attempt by RC Staff to set standards in the hobby or redefine a nano tank. It is an attempt to serve our members best and still maintain the relevance of this forum."

I did read that before asking, I do make a point of reading stickies as alot of questions are asked over and over and over, on all the forums, E.g. Is a flame angel safe in reefsafe??

I asked as really in terms of things like nTOTM would a nono linked to a bigger system qualify, I guess you have answered the qu. thanks

exactly why it wont be a considered a nano in my mind...as that is half the difficulty in keeping a clean nano
