Has anyone here made a syringe doser?

I'm using this one to dose v.s.v carbon source solution.

I would like to see other versions of this idea as I want to make more for bailing also which would need to be able to dose larger amounts.

Any pic's?

I can't take the credit for this one I found it on some german website.

I want to make others that con do bigger volumes.

Theres also another version that uses the rotation of the dial to act as a peri pump. Just a hose and some roller pins around the clock face.

Any other styles of diy dosers out there?

I've heard that you can use glass syringes if you'd like them to not wear and last longer.

Sounds like a good idea lakee911

What lube is suitable for a reef tank monkey? I need some lube for my pumps as there noisy.

How does it work?

As the timer dial rotates the syringe draws in fluid then squirts it, this cycle is repeated once every 24 hours.

Either side of the t-piece is a check valve which allows the fluid to travel in one direction only.

So in the first 12hour period the syringe is pulled down and the vsv solution in the bottle is drawn up into the syringe. Over the next 12 hour period of dial rotation the solution inside the syringe is pushed out of the lower check valve into the tank.

For it to work the airline, syringe and valves first have to be primed with fluid.

This ones a prototype and has only been in use for a whole day lol so we will see how it goes. I'm thinking a larger syringe will have less resistance than the 1ml syringe I've used.

Those cheapy check valves have a tendancy to leak.

Glycerin is used often used as a lubricant on glass syringes. In a reef aquarium application plumbers silicone or food grade silicone would also work fine.

By chance do you have the website info that you found it on. This looks exactly like I want to do to dose my vodka.
Thanks in advance

Here's a clock option:

Heavy duty clock motor (http://cgi.ebay.com/High-Torque---Heavy-Duty-Clock-Motor-%2f-Movement--%23512HT_W0QQitemZ280358054735QQcmdZViewItem)

Heres the link

http://www.home.zonnet.nl/rsetteur/aquarium/karel/doseer_pmp/index_doseer.htm

You might want to put the site into a translation application as it's in german.

I have turned off the doser until I get some lube as it was getting to tight. The small syringe was a bad choice as it has so much friction/resistance than slightly larger syringes. I might put on a bigger syringe and dilute the solution to suite.

Thanks for the pointers therealfatman I will go look for some lube today :)

Thanks
Let us now how it works longterm, although I will be attempting one myself.

Using a syringe of the size that you want to dose would be recommended. A bunch of squirts of a little syringe would tend to accumulate error and a very little squirt of a huge syringe would be easy to under/over-estimate.

For example, if you want to dose 20mL over a nominal time period, I would find a syringe of that size.

I don't know what kind of motor you are using, but you may want to consider a stepper motor, or some reduction gearing to bring down high rpms to something more managable.

For anyone who has one laying around or that goes to garage sells etc. The 24 hour Intermatic timers that come in the metal boxes use a heavy weight timer with a metal dial face that would easily hold up to continous use and the syringe would easily fit inside of the box also.

Here is one on eBay:

cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270378563163&ssPageName=MERC_VI_RCRX_Pr4_PcY_BIN_Stores_IT&refitem=250440930055&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=active_view_item&usedrule1=CrossSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget&_trksid=p284.m184&_trkparms=algo%3DCRX%26its%3DS%252BI%252BSS%26itu%3DISS%252BUCI%252BSI%26otn%3D4

Lots of glass syringes cheap on eBay:
